Not starting, no fire? Merc 150

I think I have the water pump issue solved so far, I am getting 14psi sometimes more at WOT and 3-4 at idle. It never ran hot and stayed in the 140 to the 150 degree range.

After I left the boat launch we pushed the boat around and went riding. After riding a while I pulled back to the dock and then out the drive in reverse and it may a jumping sensation. It was backing but it appeared to be not engaging fully. Any suggestions on that?

At that point we decided to call it a day and load up the boat. I backed the truck and then went to get the boat and it would not start. It made no attempt at firing up and at that point it appeared that it was not firing.

At home with hose on lower unit I turned over the motor while I remove a plug and I do not see any spark. I am not sure if it is safe to check the spark that way or even if that will determine anything.

From having previous outboards I think it may be the switchbox, but I am not positive on that. Any thoughts or suggestions on testing.

check your Mercury switch(if you have one)
its a little black switch (should be by your switchboards). its maine porpuse is to kill the ending if the engine is lifted out of the water..
to test that just disconnect the ground(tape it up so it isnt connected) and tryit.

if still nothing
get a test light. test to make sure you have voltage to your rectifyer.

the standard outboard is.

Battery-Rectifyer-stater-trigger-to switchboard(s)-mercury switch-to coils-to plugs.
. so start fromA (battery) and work your way down the line. you should have voltage going into your stator(coming from rechifyer) if the key is turned to the "on position"

Well I fell a bit dumb but I have solved my problems.

I will have to admit that when I got out of the boat to get the truck I did not remove the lanyard for the safety switch from my life vest.

The issue with reverse was solved with adjusting the cable on the motor.
