Several years ago, my uncle-in-law and I went fishing on the Alabama River just west of Selma. I had never been there before, but he had this ramp that he liked to use. It was way out in the middle of nowhere in the back of a litle neighborhood that was in the back of a bunch of farm land. Anyway the ramp was very steep and dirt and you really needed a four wheel drive truck, which he had. No big deal really. Except that at the bottom, you don't launch into the river, you launch into a little canal that runs parrallel to the river for about 20 feet then turns out into the river through a little cutout. So we backed the boat in, all the way. The canal is flat bottomed, so the trailer can only submerge so deep no matter how far back you backup. There was just enough water in the canal to float the boat. So we push it off the trailer and went fishing. We should have went home.
When we got back to the canal just before dark, they were drawing water dowstream and the canal was empty. There was no way to get back to the trailer. The nearest real boat ramp was in Selma, about 10 or so miles away. Unfortunately the boat was almost out of gas. Soooo, we had to remove the fuel tank from the boat (luckly not too hard), put it in the truck, drive to Selma, get gas and oil, drive back to the ramp, reinstall the tank, and then drive back to Selma in the truck and him in the boat to reload the boat.
Okay, it may have been stupid after all.
