Not sure which starter for Merc 470

Greetings all!! My uncle gave me a '81 Cobia Sportster with a Mercruiser 470. My uncle wasn't quite sure but he believes the motor is original to the boat. The model number is MCM 470, S/N 5855572 and the rotation is CCW. The starter is faulty which I proved by hooking it up directly to a fully charged brand new battery. After much research tonight I could only find two starters:

I believe the Arco50144 is the correct starter due to both the engine and starter being CCW. I'm new to this and I wanted to make sure I don't make a $250+ mistake. I'm asking if some one could please confirm that the Arco50144 is the correct starter? I really appreciate your time and assistance.

The engine is CCW, the starter is CW. I might suggest a modern permanent magnet gear reduction starter part # 2-2591-DR-2 as found here: http://www.armatureserviceco.com/sh...4 1987 1988 1989 165 Mercury 3.7l 224ci 4 Cyl It is what I use and it has worked fine for two years. It is about 2/3 the size of the original. It will fit your engine.

If your original starter did not have a solenoid, you will want to run a new heavy battery cable from the battery to the large terminal on the starter solenoid, and run a new red wire from the large terminal of the slave solenoid on the block to terminal used to energize the starter solenoid. That will be the same as the more up to date slave/starter two solenoid set up for the 470. Good luck.

Thanks again. I did receive an email from armature service co. and they no longer stock the starter that you linked to me. However, they stock a similar starter which will still fit the Merc 470 but it's a little more expensive but they are still going to charge me the original price.
