I was told by the previois ownwer but im not sure was right. the merc serial number tag says 6684072. if anyone has a way of telling me what it id appreiciate it. thanls jeff

its a 4 cylinder in a 1984 boat thats all I know. does anyone know how to run theserial number to know what model it is.

that says I/O , the engine, is it FWC (heat exchanger) or no heat exchanger
Is this the serial number of the engine?

No heat exchanger it does have alpha one drive I think its a gen 2

ji know I thinkit was replaced the bolts that hold it together are thru bolts and nuts not studs with nuts

that means the motor was out and the transom assembly was replaced with a GEN II style.
A GEN II cannot just bolt up to an Alpha housing

That serial number is for a 1984 Mercruiser 140 (3.0 Litre) engine. If you give us the serial number on the transom assembly and the serial number on the drive, we can look those up too... Or post photos... (Please don't use photobucket. My poxxy IT department, which stands for 'Irritating Twats' have closed photobucket to us on the grounds that it is 'Media sharing'... )
