'Nother steering question....

Does anyone have a steering/controls setup on a 12' aluminum boat? Is there any sense to it? I weigh 250 and though I have an Alaskan with 20" transom, I sit deep in the water with the bow up a ways. It seems to me that sitting in the next seat up would even me out, so to speak.

Sure it makes sense. A lot of 13' Whalers have wheel steering. I'd think a simple cable setup would be easy to do. If you're worried about trim, you might want to consider mounting it in the center of the seat instead of 1 side.

Thanks for the note. I know Smokercraft makes steering, guess I'll look into it and do a cost/benefit analysis.. ;) I've seen long sticks to add on to the throttle to get more forward, I reckon if all else fails I might look at those, too.

Try putting a few sand bags up front.

That's a good idea, Cobra, though being a chunky tuna I may have to buy a half yard and a lot of bags....heh.
