Today I am cruising with an aluminium 14 1/2 RH 17, but was told, that there is a newer (more modern version) with the size of 15 RH 17.

The engine I am using it with is a Mercruiser 165 IL 6, with a sterndrive, dated 1979. Is there a reason why to change?

Thanks for your advice.

Best, Popey

If your present prop is 32 years old with lots of use its probably worn enough to need replacing.
Also I think prop design is more sofisticated now.
Don't buy it because of the diameter Diameter is a secondary comsideration.A listing of props for your setup I think 4 out of 6 were 15" or larger.

A difference of 1/2" diameter will not be noticeable.

What will be noticeable is any difference in blade design. You can take two props with the same diameter and pitch and they can perform very differently due to cupping, rake, material (aluminum vs stainless steel) and other factors.

And as a result, replacing your current prop may produce results that you weren't prepared for and that could either be bad or good. "Don't fix it if it taint broke" is my motto and has proven many times when I used to constantly tinker with things.
