now I have weak spark, should I go transistorized?

so my 1975 15hp evinrude I finally got the manual in for it. did some more tinkering. instead of spark only on the lower cylinder, I now have very weak spark on both cylinders. Either today or tomorrow I will recheck with a proper plug gap tool (but my wife wont really let me do what I want on fathers day haha)...

the bulb plug tester barely glows, has to be dark outside. probably wont see much from the adjustable plug gap tool. people told me to set it at 5/16" gap for testing?

I also got an entire magneto plate assembly with a good sub harness off ebay but its still on the way. I'm just wondering, should I conver this thing to the transistorized setup and just not deal with points/condensors anymore?

if so, I mount the transistor packs outside of the plate assembly right? not inside where the points used to be? or can I do that as well so I dont have to drill holes? I've seen both on youtube...

my last question is this motor has two main coils on the side of the powerhead feeding the plugs but then it has a driver coil inside the magneto as well which goes to both points assemblies. do I retain this driver coil as well or does it get taken out as well? none of the videos I have found explain about having a driver coil.

this is what I would use right?

I would test the driver coil under the flywheel.------There is nothing wrong with mechanical switches ( breaker points ) on these motors.-----They give you some warning that they need some care.-----Electronic ignitions fail like a light bulb ( pooofff ) and you are stranded.-----Everybody works too different standards.

I will say that the clymers manual sucks really bad lol. it literally says "use an engine analyzer" for electrical component testing....really?? sigh...thank god I only paid $15 for it shipped.

You could make a spark test device with scrap plywood , glue and some wire.--- Such as the cord cut off a scrap toaster or electric drill.-----Costs pennies.
