well i found what i want 1989 18' barron openbow
1,800 for it

however it did not come with a kicker trolling motor so one last thing i wanted to ask on here, and again im sorry for all the dumb questions but i am trying to be setup with a good boat for my trip and have something fun for the summer.

here are a few outboards i found that are in my price range while i was looking around craigslist, i am just wondering if 1 or all of these would be good for my boat, and if any of these motors is a big problem haver i would like to know about that too.

i am gonna get my kicker bracket after i get the motor so i will know wich one i need.
it also doesnt have a fishfinder so i am thinking of getting an eagle cuda 250
ff/df/gps unit does anyone have any experience with these?

I think you should get a 2 storks 15HP long shaft. If you have an outboard on your new boat I would get the same brand

another thing i was wondering is if i have an adjustable kicker bracket does it matter if it is a long or short shaft motor?

Merc 15hp, longshaft electric start would be the best of these options. Being a long shaft will be more important than 9.9 or 15 hp will be.

It depends on where the bracket is mounted. I use a bracket, but also need a 25 inch shaft to get the depth I need. The further down the transon the bracket is, the harder it is to reach and retrieve the motor. I use a Honda 15 HP extra long shaft.

i also had someone offer me a 1984 9.8 merc ss for my bayliner
if i could somehow use that motor on my new boat that would be great, wouldnt the extensions for the tiller handles work for that?

if not i will probably just take that and trade it for a long shaft or use it on my smaller boat probably too much for that though it is just a little 8' fiberglass boat

The problem isn't so much reaching the motor, its keeping the prop in the water. Bigger boats sit deeper and stern drives sit lower yet, so a short shaft many times won't reach below the hull and/or the power head is barely out of the water. This creates a situation where in rougher water the prop can come up out of the water and then the power head can go under as you ride over the waves.

alright thanks for all the help
i will go with a long shaft or extra long, ended up picking up a 21' glastron trihull instead of the barron,the barron was alot newer but i got a way better deal on the trihull and it came with alot of accesories (kicker bracket for one)
