Just looking at the owner/operator manual for the 9.9B and I ran across this section that refers to an 'overheat sensor option'. Never noticed that before. How do you know if you have this option, and can you add it to a motor that doesn't have it??

Nothing like that in the parts catalog. Never heard of one for a 9.9B.
Why would you want one anyway?

I was just curious. It would be a nice feature so you don't have to be worried about overheating the engine. I actually just sold the 9.9B I had and the guy that bought it asked if it had something like that and I said "no". For some stupid reason I was perusing the manual after he left and ran across that paragraph and was surprised that I hadn't seen it earlier (I've read through the manual a few times before!). But it also got me thinking that it would be pretty easy to bolt on a sensor to the block on any outboard and run it through an alarm to the charging system and have a DIY one.

I suppose that would work, but as long as your wp is good, and you didn't run over a plastic garbage bad, it's not going to overheat anyway.
