Recently bought my first boat. A 14ft gamefisher w/ what previous owner said was a '91 Evinrude 25hp. Engine is starting to act up a bit (difficulty starting, kill switch failure...) and want to buy the best manual(s) to attempt to diy, can someone recommend? Problem: the plate w/ the model/serial # on it has been painted over. Is the model or serial # located somewhere on the interior of the motor. I'm a real babe-in-the-woods at this point in time so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Try a little steel wool on the serial number plate. The numbers are usually stamped on it.
The best manual is the real original factory manual. Not Seloc or Clymers.
They can be found on Ebay..

Re: nuB ???

Thanks for gettin back to me.
On the disk is stamped G3194142 and what looks like a capital N encased in a slanted rectangle. Does this offer any clue to the model? I want to confirm the engine type before I get the manual.
Thanks again.

Re: nuB ???

contact a johnny/rude dealer they can tell you after the mid 90's they quit putting the model number on the plug, and i know of no online cross reference.

Re: nuB ???

Well, I took it to a local Evi tech. He says the serial # is not registered w/ the BRP system (shady...). The part #'s match those of a '93 in his estimation. He also added that it has about a gillion hours on it, too. So expect to hear from me again, my new-found friends, as I'll be relying on your expertise for the inevitable projects in my future in the realm of marine engine maintenance.
Thanks alot for your help with this.
Great intro to iboats.
