:facepalm: OK. I have posted a few times about this engine .....dealer told me it was a 1986 Mariner 75 HP...However if I look parts up numbers don't jive Serial Number on Outboard is OB109040..(to the best I can read). It is the older style wrap around shroud with a aluminum cast top. I need a stator However here on Iboats it does not show this serial number range, or even close? The stator has a number of 398-5454A22 "Part number" I am sure but no mfg.:facepalm: name on it. Help?

Re: Numbers not adding up?

Gotya, thanks for the info but why is the stator Part number 398-5454A22? Does it have the wrong stator on it? Do you have a Model number for this engine because apparently there are 2 (models)....and I cannot find either on my outoard anywhere?

Re: Numbers not adding up?

Gerry, Thank you for doing some research for me! I think by reading your links this number replaces a load of different stators....Got that......Does that Serial Number sound right?....and if so from what I can gather there are 2 Model numbers of this engine (long/short shaft?) not sure....I have a few more parts to order, while I am in there do you suggest I replace the trigger as well? Thank you in advance!! Stu

Re: Numbers not adding up?

Stu;

Just to confirm the engine,

Your engine comes up as:

75 A954437 - B167520 1986

From here:

http://www.marinshopen.se/Motorer/O...rslista/Mariner60275hp/tabid/462/Default.aspx

There is only one model number for the engine s/n and for your s/n it is:

Model Manufacturer Year HP
7075726 MARINER 1986 75

Parts listing:

http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/277.cfm

The other designators you are looking at define if it is a Long/Short Shaft, Electric or Manual start, Power trim etc, however, this is all contained in the parts listing for the model number of your engine, which is defined by the s/n.

The p/n for the stator is 398-5454 with subsequent minor changes to the stator being defined by a change of the A number but not the main number (398-5454). Therefore, the CDI p/n being the latest and greatest version, simply covers all of those minor changes that were incorporated in 398-5454A4 thru A63.

I have changed post #2 to add the CDI unit.

Re: Numbers not adding up?

Gerry, Thank you that cleared alot up.....I am awaiting a 90.00 service manual that will keep me from asking so many dumb questions, it is just driving me nuts how complicated Mariner/Mercury engines are....I was a Jonrude guy but I really like this engine....guess I am going to get good at these the hard way? However Thank you again!

344;

No problem, was glad to do it and remember, that if you have a question, ask. I'm sure that in your profession, you must spend a lot of time drilling that into the newbies.

Good luck with your engine.

Re: Numbers not adding up?

Thanks, in my profession I have 25 years of exp to back up my talk, with this Mariner I feel like an idiot! Again I have redone many outboards and always was spooked by the wiring nightmares of Merc/Mar.....I think I am just getting myself worked up over nothing.....We'll get this thing LOL! Thanks again!
