Re: O.B. Question

absolutely stick with the johnson. Its a MUCH better motor. Even though the chrysler has more power, it wont be very noticeable, they were weak motors anyway. I always tell people to stick with the mainstream brands and avoid force, chrysler, ect.

Re: O.B. Question

the johnson 70 is a 3cyl... is the chrysler a v4? if that is the case the weight savings will negate the lesser hp. they should be about the same, with the johnson getting better fuel mileage.

go to the Chrylser parts site, and see how many parts are still available. that will make your decision.

Dalton,

You've gotten some good advice from our fellow iboaters. It is obivious that the Johnson and Evinrudes stick out over the rest. Parts are plentiful and they are very easy to work on espescially the older ones. There's plenty of power in the 70 for cruising. I hope it all goes well for you.

Re: O.B. Question

I have a friend who has an 85hp Chrysler on his boat. He is constantly fighting to keep that thing running. I have been a Johnson fan since my dad bought the 5.5 in 1963. I still have it.

Oh man, and I just came up with the perfect place for that ol' Chysler.

Should have built a nice stand, drilled a hole through the cover, ran a wire up through the lower unit to the power head, and installed a light kit. Perfect addition to any "man garage".:D
