So the part number for the coils that I need has been discontinued, with no apparent replacement. Boat motor mech says that I may be able to take an old coil to a LAWNMOWER PARTS SHOP and find a match. Thoughts? Coherent?

Are you working on a lawnmower?

What motor and what's the serial number? Always the first thing needed for Mercury lawn equipment

Also you should look at your original post because it has a source. So it was answered!

Lots of coils are interchangeable on a performance spec, but the mounts are different, or maybe the wire locations are are different, but they can be used.

Motor is a 25 hp merc force. SN 0E301961
I cannot locate the original question any longer, but as of 0600 this morning, there had been no response.

Sorry cptmarvel about your other topic, I've accidently pushed the wrong button while trying to reply to it. Below is the title and the question but unfortunately the topic is no longer available as it's now gone forever.

25 hp merc force coils needed

The part no that I found is discontinued. 850899T 1. I cannot find a replacement. 98 model. Ser No 0E301961. Help?!?

If I did the search online correctly using part number 850899T 1, It appears there might be some on eBay, http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odk...C0.H0.X850899t+1.TRS0&_nkw=850899t+1&_sacat=0

Or even an iboats competitor says it has that number in stock, http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/merc/M-850899T.html **= Boats . net

If not, let us know.

I didn't say that it made sense. In all reality, as a car/truck mech for a couple years I can't even envision the spark plug cable being long enough...and a host of other issues. Circumference of the flywheel. Magneto on the inside or outside. Crap like that. Just wondering if it was a practice is all. Only got so many boat motor mechs in Tennessee.

I've found them on eBay, same part number minus the "1" at the end. Not the correct one. I did find 2 for $136 each this morning, and I'll requisition them tomorrow. Was just WONDERING ABOUT THE LAWNMOWER THING.
