My hydraulic trim pump assembly leak was caused by a blown o-ring. The other 3 were intact but a bit flattened. They matched up exactly to the 3/8" x 1/2" O-rings I have. In as much as there is only a groove on one side I suppose they wouldn't be very thick. My question is that the O-rings don't fill the groove cut for them. But then neither did the ones that came out. Maybe they weren't factory ones, but never leaked before and looked pretty old. Does that sound correct?
I don't know if there is a 1/2" X 5/16" o-ring. Thanks in advance as usual. Greg

If you plug in your year, make, & model here

https://webapps.brunswick.com/literature/literatureSearch.do

you will get the parts information. Put in your drive info. The trim pumps are in there.

I normally get the part info & either replicate by size as you are asking, or get the exact part if it's unique to the situation.

Are you able to locate the O-rings that you need in either of the links below? Are they item number 1?

NHGuy, looking back at Karbine98 past posts, the link you provided might not work with his model since it appears he may have a 1978 model outdrive. That link is usually only good for 1980+ stern drive models. Sometimes it may pick up on an 1978 Mercury outboard but nothing older than 1978. Just an FYI is all, but it's always best to check that site first to see if it will pull something up.;)

Sorry for anemic original post. It is a '78 SeaStar Mercruiser 165 with the Prestolite trim pump. I might call dealer here in town though I think the rings I have are OK. Thnx Greg
