Howdy,

while installing a pair of Doel-fins on my new 440 Lami I was a lttle bit surprised when I saw how motor (40hp Evinrude VRO) has been mounted at the transom: I think its not deep enough but I do not know for sure?! In my opinion the lower part of the outboard (let´s say from that cavitation-plate, where you mount the Doels on) should be either deeper or at least equal to the boat´s bottom, shouldnt it?! I think that my motor is mounted too high, maybe 2 inches- will I loose performance? Do these Doel-fins even have a chance to work correctly if the motors mounted too high on the transom? Any input on this would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Greetings from Germany,
Rotti

Generally speaking, the cavitation plate should be even with the bottom of the boat. The usual practice is to start low and raise it one postion at a time until excesive ventilation occurs in turns. Then drop one position for final setting. Good luck.
