Every year around April 15 I go to OBX. This years I thought I might take the Cobia boat along (the one in my signature). I dont have any plans to get in the Atlantic ocean. Is the Albemarle or Currituck Sounds, even the North River a "safe" place to boat? Is there any interesting place to see? What about ramps and marinas? I will only have about 12 gal of gas so I am restricted to less than 40 miles round trip unless there are marinas that I can use to refuel.

I stay in a house a few hundred yards from the Kitty Hawk Bay (N36.03706 W75.67924) so you can have an idea where I will be located. I have been boating for almost 20 years, most of them at lakes but I spend the last 3 years (I lived in PR boating offshore fishing. I have my old BlueChart Americas v2008 and the US Waterways & Ligths Garmin maps.

Funny how I did not care going offshore fishing miles and miles away to the point where I could not see either land or other boats in 17 or 19 footers and be ok. Now with the boat full of loved ones (2 kids included) I dont feel too adventurous.

Any information or tips for the area will be greatly appreciated. If you use that area regularly and have some tracks from your boating there and you dont mind sharing them I will appreciate it very much. It will make me feel a lot better.

You are in RODBOLTS neck of the woods. Try to get his attention, he knows his way around. Only launch I am aware of around there is on the right just before you go over OREGON INLET. Nice facilities. My opinion only, with family, do not go out thru the inlet. Have never seen it when it was not treterous. Suspect you can find RODBOLT at the BLUE CRAB on the road going to COLLINGTON. regards FRED
