ocean runner 115 trim problem

While on the water today the trim gauge pointer dropped and the trim switch on the throttle stopped working. At first the trim switch on the engine worked, but now neither set of switches works at all. Checked all the fuses which appear to be good, but that's all so far. Are the relays inside the engine cowelling?

Look for a black box on the engine - the relays are inside. The relays don't have any function for the trim gauge, so if that is out, the problem is not the relays.

Thanks ezeke, If not a relay problem any ideas as to what it might be?

Re: ocean runner 115 trim problem

The trim gauge operates from a variable resistor signal mounted on the transom bracket; it requires 12 volts from the gauge to a solid ground at the engine.

The PT&T is controlled from the helm by 12 volts to the relays, again the grounds must be solid.

You don't give the year or model of your motor, bu I will post a typical wiring diagram so that you can start checking the wiring. I would look for a break or corrosion, starting with the harness plugs.

Check the wiring with an ohmmeter with the battery disconnected.

Thank you for the wiring diagrams. I'll check it today. Sorry I didn't tell the year of the engine. The boat is a 1995 Seaswirl striper 1850, so I assume the engine is of that vintage as well.

It's fixed. I had the starter replaced a short while ago and the mechanic hadn't tightened the ground. All is well now.
