Can I top off the oil in the OD through the small hole where the level check is? I filled it from the bottom, but I think it needs just a little more. Or would this add too much air to the oil?
Thanks
Eddie

Re: Od Adding oil

Those outdrives use regular motor oil and you fill them from the top, not from the bottom like Mercs. There's a hollow screw on the forward right corner of the cover. You can remove that and add oil from there but leave the dipstick out for a vent. Check your o-rings and gaskets, or better yet, replace them once a year when you do the pressure test.

Thanks for the info. I knew it used motor oil . Just figured it was done like an outboard. Glad to know I don't have to do it the messy way anymore .
Thanks again.
Eddie.

I found the easiest way to fill my 275 was to use a funnel with flexible tube attached which I found at the local auto parts store. If not you'll need to rig something to get the oil into the fill hole on the front side of the drive under the linkage cover.

I always fill mine from the bottom, it's the easy way if you have a little pump to screw on the quart container. When correct level shows on dip stick screw in dip stick and then remove the pump. A little will drain out but without an air inlet at the top not enough escapes to matter.
You can top off thru the dip stick without a problem, allow air to get out.
