Hello my friends.
73 blah blah with a 165 mercruiser L6 motor.
Really stuck with removing the OD. Played by the rules..
1. In FWD gear (prop locked CCW, ratcheted to the right)
2. Removed 6 nuts & dropped the trim arms
3. Bounced her to help break the seal a little. Did so and cracked the skag fin..I'll live...
4. Have about half an inch seperation..thats it.
5. On the starboard side, I see a maybe a 3/4 inch tab that slides back & forth a little..
6. Tried using the come-along, no luck there..

what am I doing wrong? and is number 5 my problem, other than being a complete idiot?

Note to Don..
Yes, of course I downloaded the manual. That's on my laptop that is on it's way back to Calif to my IT dept. My GF's work puter I am hi-jacking has a no download policy...

Re: OD removal.....

Ayuh,...

I'm just Guessing, but this barge has probably seen some Saltwater,..??

For #3,.... Lower the trailer jack to raise the transom,.. It shouldn't be hitting the skeg...

#5 is the shift slide, No problem there...

Guessing that it's rusted to the gimbel bearing,...
Lift it up High, put a 2x4 down by the exhaust/ bottom of the transom assembly,....
And SLAM it down onto the 2x4... Repeat as Necessary......

The Jarring of it rather than the steady pull of the come-a-long usually is what actually Motivates it...
If you try the come-a-long thing again,... A block of wood,+ a BFH will help in that dept....

Ayuh,....

Not to keep piling it on,......

That drive might, or might not have the big Snap-ring holding the gimbel bearing in-place....
Hopefully,...
Whomever had it out last,.. Didn't put that useless snap-ring back in...;)

Good Luck,+ keep Us posted....

Bondo-o Thanks a million, no snap ring...

I'd post pics of the u joints, but it would just be OH MY GOSH MAN fodder..

Needless to say they are the rustiest p.o.s I have ever seen..I'll be searching forums for replacment procedures..

Now I can move on to seeing if that L6 is frozen
