I seem to have what's best described as a "flat spot" on my 8hp kicker. I can't for the life of me figure out what the deal is.
Symptoms: at a certain point - roughly 1/2 throttle the motor will eventually start to run rough and then quit over the course of about 3 or 4 minutes. It doesn't happen at lower rpms, nor does it happen at higher rpms. Unfortunately that rpm range is smack in the middle of salmon trolling speed.
Diagnosis so far:
Spark check - fine.
Compression 110 both holes.
Both plugs look normal.
Tried another tank.
Rebuilt carb, then tried a different rebuilt carb.
Can't tell if squeezing the ball works or not it takes too long to repro the problem.
Weak fuel pump?
I can't think of anything else.
