Hi,

I asked before wether someone could identify a part in my drivetrain, an adapter that couples my Ford engine to my VP 280 stern drive. It does not look like other bell houses since this one is cylinder shaped.

Some of you gentlemen responded, problem was I did not have a picture available then. Well, here it is - any clues? The part number (under the green cable) says 1-897 657.

Thanks in beforehand!

It's exactly as I stated in your Other Post. The white housing attached to the blue bellhousing is item #69 in that first picture, and the blue bellhousing is item #14 from the second picture.

Hi Don,

I fully agree about item 14 (the blue part) but the white section looks different to me than the one on the drawing (although I guess they are performing exactly the same role). Look at dimensions and where the bolt for greasing is placed for instance.

But this might be a dead end discussion, the vital thing is wether its something wrong with it (as noise indicates), if I can find the correct parts and if I will have to lift the engine - there is certainly no room at all for simply pulling it forward.

Thanks!

You just can't see all of it because it goes thru the transom shield. There are also 2 bearings in it. If water gets to them from a bad bellows or something, they go bad. Yes you have to pull the engine, and the upper gear box of the outdrive to get it out.
