Odd hole in carb of a J6rccs

So I was cleaning the carb on my 6hp (j6rccs) and found a hole I don't recall just inside the carb. mouth. It's not a round hole, and it goes through to an opening on the plastic top. There is a bit of corrosion on the carb, was this a small intentional hole that is now larger? It has been being hard to start recently.

You have a bad casting. Replace the carb.
