My Evinrude Lightwin 3 hp purrs like a kitten, I never change any settings and get a smooth run every time. Last week I took my dad fishing in my 10' jon and at wot it seemed slow and boggy , I turned the low speed knob out half a turn and it ran a little faster than usaul and sounded to rev higher. Got it out today and it ran like it always had so I turn the knob back to where it was and it purred like a kitten. The only theroy I have is my dad is about 265 lbs. and the front end of boat was a bit lower than the back, so would that cause a difference in preformance ? I don't remember that happening last year when we went out. I'm 99.9% sure I used my mixed gas, but would straight gas cause that type of problem ? Any way, it's running fine now as it did before , just been bugging me. -Thanks

The bow of the boat was plowing water.

Also, why would you adjust the low speed needle when running at WOT?

The knob is missing on the high speed shaft so I just turn the low speed knob 1/2 turn just to see if anything would change, which I ended up returning to the original position.

Yah, I kinda figured I had to much weight up front , but how do you tell someone you can't take 'em out cause they weigh to much

I had the same thing happen.
I had a 12 alm rated for 550#, outboard and fuel takes 100# away from that, gives me 450# to play with, well I'm a big boy at 250#, thats only 200# left.
add my kid at 180# and the dog at 90# and that equals a really slow boat
