Just installed a 6 hp on a 12 footer at my son's cottage on the lake. What seems to me to be a very odd problem happened at the first test run. Motor would idle for a very long time ... but sometimes (yea not all the time) when I pushed it WOT it would go 50 feet and simply die.
When that happened the primer pump was soft and gas empty and priming it would push air only ... then after many tries it would prime again and the motor could be restarted.
I finaly found out that the primer pump would be operational only if positioned verticaly (upward) and would stop feeding gas when positioned horizontaly.
Ended up making a new shorter hose config so the primer pump would be closer to the motor gas intake connector thus standing verticaly ... ran hours that way without stalling.
I will put a new gas line hoses asap. Anyone familiar with this odd problem ? Or could it be an OB gas pump related problem ? Or gas line too long ?? Donno yet.
Tx
