Odd Question about Outdrive Gear Lube Resevoir....

When I replaced the impeller in my outdrive, something was brought to my attention that I did not realize or really don't know anything about.

I was told by the boat/parts dealer that if I had an alpha 1 Gen 2 then I will have a reservoir basically on top of the engine for the gear lube. I assured them this was not the case, and got home and indeed I have no plastic reservoir for gear lube int then engine compartment.

This is an alpha 1 gen 2 outdrive, confirmed by serial number and the impeller housing is stainless.

Anyone know why i wouldn't have this resevoir? Should it be there???? I'm not sure if there's even a manual I can refer to that will tell me this?

Howdy,

I'm not absolutely sure if it was available on the earliest Gen II's and it's possible that the previous owner removed it for some reason.

You can certainly add one and it would be a good idea!

Some early Gen IIs didn't have a resevoir

OK, so I'm not losing my mind...or maybe I am but not about that :)
It is the first year of the gen II's so I am guessing it didn't have the reservoir.

Is it difficult to add one, would I run a line from the "oil level" hole in the top, thru the transom and into the engin compartment? Does anyone know if there are discussions in this forum of people doing this?

Thanks for the input
