Hey everyone, 3.0 liter Mercruiser (1991)

I have an odd question about winterizing. The background on my question?Recently, I changed my impellor. I was afraid that I may have some blockage from one of the old impellor blades, so I took off the incoming water hose by the transom and I blew into it, I guess to see if air would easily flow through the system (the engine was warmed up, so the thermostat was open). When I blew into it, it seemed like I was able to push all of the water out of the engine and then I was able to blow air through the engine. It was enough to satisfy me that there was no blockage.

But, it got me thinking (and I live in Florida so I don't have to winterize)? why wouldn't this be a successful way of ridding the engine of the water in it to winterize it?

Now, please understand that I don't know much about winterizing an engine, so I'm sure I'm showing my ignorance by even asking this..but, it did get me curious.

I'm guessing that the answer is that my method of this did not get all of the water out of the engine. (oh, and yes, I know it's July, so it makes for this question being even weirder)

You got some of the water out of the exhaust, I doubt you got any out of the engine block itself.

Much easier to pull a block drain and ensure its dry. Also gets some of the sediment out of the engine block.
