I don't want to ramble on but I need to give some back ground information on this. Eight years ago I completely rebuilt a 1967 Larson Deep V from the hull up. After months of work I purchased a used 1991 50 hp Force outboard to mount on the boat. The third time I took it out I ripped a hole in the transom about 18" wide and 12 deep. Boat didn't sink but by the time I got to shore my feet were under water. I stored the motor in my shop until two week ago I mounted it on a 16 ft bass boat (1987 I am moving up) and with a fresh battery it started right up. So here is my question what maintenance should I do before taking it out on the lake?

Re: Odd question

Make sure the gearlube is full and clean. If the water pump hasn't been serviced, it's way overdue. If the motor was well prepared for storage, that may be all. Oh, and check your hoses for cracking and leaks. If the motor was stored on concrete, clean all of the electrical grounds. Make whatever may have been left in the gas tank go away. Whatever's in the fuel line, too.
