I did call them back, the guy who answered said sometimes they get false alarms from people hitting the button, not in this case.nice to know there checking up on ya....
maybe call them back and let them know at the very least they are not looking for your Twice as Nice.. surely they got latitude and longitude from the dsc to go by in locating whoever..
So the same MMSI could be entered in two different radios?Someone simply could have punched in the wrong MSSI code into their radio. Set if off playing around with it.
Nope, they said they got no coordinates at all.surely they got latitude and longitude from the dsc to go by in locating whoever.
I suspect there are a great many DSC capable radios that aren't connected to a GPS ...![]()
Does a DSC radios still transmit if it isn't hooked to a GPS? I imagine they wouldn't transmit anything if you do NOT have a MMSI.
HAHA, yep! It's the spirit of the boat, it's trying to tell you it does not want to be under the car port, It wants to be on the water, ripping around having fun...![]()
Thanks!Yes, they will still transmit if not hooked to a GPS.
My units will automatically sends time, date, and position if connected to a GPS. If not, it will send the MSSI info and the time and prompt you to manually enter your position information. Don't know if this is standard functionality, but this is how my ICOM 504A works

You are correct.I don't think your VHF has a internal clock and would not know what the time is.

If you hear helicopters, run for the hills!!!!![]()
Sure. When I bought my radio earlier this year it was not programmed. I applied for and received an MMSI number which I entered into the radio. My radio allows the MMSI number to be changed twice only.
If someone else has mistakenly entered your number into his radio, it won't be good for either one of you. I would seriously investigate this further.
... Did a little digging around and come to find out that the clock is set via the GPS and the radio keeps the time in memory for 23.5 hours...
I have no idea how to investigate it further!
If it happens again Skargo, maybe you can request a new MMSI number and cancel the old one.
