I just got a 1974 bayliner with an OEM 165 outdrive. When I hooked up the battery the drive went down, back up, and down again smoothly. After I got the engine ready, I tried Raising the drive and get nothing but a clicking noise. Is there a way to manually raise this unit?

Welcome aboard Todd. I'm assuming you mean an OMC - which would make yours a Stringer drive.

Only way to manually raise the outdrive is to unbolt the three bolts on the quadrant gear (Port side of the stern drive). Raise the drive (have someone catch the quadrant gear), re-set the gear and bolt it back in place.

Double check your voltage to the motor and see if you're getting good power to it. How long has it been since this boat has run?
