OEM Carb Kit???

I have a 1983 Johnson 175 that appears to need the carbs rebuilt. I was about to order the Sierra kits form here but have read that they have been problems in the needle and seat areas as well as gaskets. Some have mentioned to use the OEM kits but haven't said where to buy them. The marine repair guys around here don't seem to want to sell me the kit but rather pay them for something I can do. So..... my question is where to find the OEM carb rebuild kits or are the Sierra kits from here sufficient. I DON'T want to use cheaper parts that may cause more trouble.

Re: OEM Carb Kit???

As far as carb kits go....I use only OMC.....and for water pumps also....they are Original design and also quality...

there are a few places on line to get Mailorder OMC parts....
http://www.crowleymarine.com/

http://www.marineengine.com/

these 2 you can get OMC kits....they ship fast...

for electronics Sierra or CDI is good..but for carbs and pumps OMC is best...

Can anyone tell me why these kits swing so much in price. Start around 14 and go up to 29.09? Does the OEM kit have more parts in it? Basically which one do I need? My motor is a 1983 175 Johnson Model # J175TLCTE.

I kinda agree with ya TD but when I can buy the OEM kit $8.00 less than from BRP I going to order from the other supplier.

Re: OEM Carb Kit???

Price difference might be due to whether it includes the float.
Or whether its direct vs drop shipped from timbuk2.

If not for the likes of Tash and the other guys here my outboard wouldn't even run except for the help I get, and considering what we save with DIY?
I don't bother to price shop if I can get it here.

Re: OEM Carb Kit???

Not really price shopping. I just want to be sure to use good parts on the rebuild. I saw guys that said the Sierra kits caused them problems in the needle and seat area. I was planning on buying that specific kit but was a little concerned about the comments. Like the forum and will certainly buy parts from here as long as they are of good quality.

Tashasdaddy, I assume by your comment you are a marine mechanic, so if you haven't seen issues with these kits then I suppose I will be buying them. Any tricks to this? It sounds pretty straight forward from what I've read on this site.
