oem service manual

I just received my new copy of an OEM service manual for Johnson/Evinrude. The set of two books is extremely detailed with lots of pictures and schematics.
The only "negative" thing I can say is about the cost. The manuals are $70.00 for the set. Pretty steep, BUT when you factor in the savings of doing your own work, you'll save 10 times that pretty darn quick.I don't know if it's allowed to put in the supplier's name, but, let's try it. It's from Marine Engine. They also, supposedly, have parts. I don't know enough to say whether I got a good deal or not and I don't know whether or not their parts are OEM or aftermarket. If anyone has had dealings witth them (good or bad) or has bought parts from them, I'd like to know if I should continue to deal with them or if I should check around for another supplier.

Re: oem service manual

You can mention them and even mention their website. Especially when they offer something iboats doesn't, like OEM service manuals. What iboats frowns on is when you provide a link that the readers can click on. Copy/Paste is tolerable, or typing something obvious like Marine Engine dot com. With regards to potentially competing entities, I'm sure they'd prefer that they aren't promoted here. But they usually have prices here that beat most if not all competitors anyhow. They've been very liberal as long as links aren't provided. It eats into their website performance.

OEM manuals are great and I prefer them myself. But they're written for people with a fair knowledge of the product and can be a bit intimidating to the average reader. Aftermarket manuals aren't as specific sometimes, but they're written for anybody that can tell the difference between a hammer and a pipe wrench. And sometimes they don't go into a lot of detail regarding things that should be left to properly trained techs with proper facilities.

Right above where I'm typing this(Reply box) is a small icon right in between the A and the yellow box with a mountain in it. (Looks like a globe) Click on that and paste the URL of the page you want to link to. It will show up in your reply...This is iboats home page ... http://www.iboats.com/. You can name the links, but that's a whole other story....

When you paste the URL into the link window, do not erase the blue highlighted "http://www.". Just paste it along side of it...Like this:

Re: oem service manual

I appreciate the guidance on what I can put in my questions or statements. Has anyone dealt with a good parts supplier or is it just a hit and miss game getting parts?
I've got some parts (i.e.carb kits,VRO pump, etc.) I need to order. While I realize the difference in OEM and After market parts and costs, I'd like to deal with someone that not going to rip me off!

Re: oem service manual

iboats is reliable for generic parts. I've ordered numorous parts from them and have been well pleased with the parts and shipping....Also have used ishopmarine for some parts. Takes a bit longer, but they do have OMC parts if that's what you need....
