OEM Volvo Oil Filter numbers interpretation

Changed the oil on my 4.3 this weekend. First time I've done it myself. The filter I pulled off had numbers on the bottom, and I was trying to figure out what they meant. Seems it may be the manufacture date, but can't be sure. And, if it is the manufacture date, looks like the filter was 8 years old...

This filter was an OEM volvo filter. I got the boat two years ago and when I got it the owner said he had just changed the oil, however he didn't mention if he also changed the filter....(bangs head on wall)

volvo buys their filters from a company like Hengst or Wix. they do not make them, they have them private labeled.

the volvo branded filters may have been sitting in a warehouse for 8 years.

nothing special about a 4.3, uses the same wix filter as the 5.7 and other motors.

Ahh, I think the 4.3 uses a different filter than the V8 small blocks. I have used both Sierra and Merc filters for the V6 and they are a different part number than the V8 small blocks. Either works fine and you can get them anywhere.

Almost all recent Volvos have remote filters. Just cross reference the Volvo number to a Wix.

Pay no attention to what the block itself uses since the filter is determined by the whats on the remote filter.

Loads of equally good or better filters out there. I used to use Fram filters for my VP 4.3. The Quicksilver Merc 4.3 ones fit too.

Ps. Not exclusively, but usually I think VP parts usually start with an “8”

Buy a Fram XG30 and forget the rest. Best box store filter on the market now.
