Turned the key and all I heard was "click". I've got some history with this starter - I'm about 90% sure that's what it is. Middle of the lake, Saturday morning - plenty of other boats out, but none near me. There's a starter cord in a little pouch under the cowling, I'd just never tried it before. Fired right up...much easier than I thought. So I figured what the heck, why quit now...went to the next spot, just kept fishing. The starter went back to working after that - several times during the day. Until late afternoon, I'd decided to call it a day. "Click" again...get out the rope...starts no problem...that's when the white bass decided to start schooling...well who runs from surfacing fish? As the sun went down, I got out my rope for the last time. Pulled and pulled, but it just wasn't happening. There's one other boat, couple hundred yards away...luckily I managed to reach 'em with the trolling motor just as they were ready to pull out. Their launch wasn't too far from mine. It'd have taken me hours to get back. After loading the boat I turned the key...of course the starter worked...it's just teasing me.
