okay, i am not off-shore, but use a boat in some very deep, very cold waters, and sometimes in water with mean undercurrents.

my partner and i want to purchase off shore type I life jackets, that you can wear as a jacket or coat. no yokes, or vests. does anyone make something like this, and where are we going to find them? i would prefer traditional non-inflating type.

or, is there something with a high rate of boyancy out there that can be worn easily in a jacket? we have looked at a stearns brand type III, and we are considering it. several years ago i saw some extreme condition life coats that would have been ideal if they performed as advertised. of course, i am not sure where i spotted them.

normal conditions to be used in: severe cold, winds, snow, rain, and ice storms.

thanks,
CC

Re: off-shore life jackets

Mustang does indeed make some very nice rough weather stuff and from personal experience, I have found that the two piece floater suit gives you more freedom of movement. The bib style pants do not slide down on you and you can just wear the jacket alone if you like.
Also check out the Helly Hanson website, they are the people who make survival clothing for the oil rigs in Alaska.
I guess it just depends on how much money you want to spend
Good luck and stay afloat :)

Re: off-shore life jackets

thanks guys, i will check into them. i kind of look at some of the safety things like this: my life is worth more than my boat, and more than a couple of hundred bucks. so, if/when something drastic occurs, i would like to be as prepared as possible. i would actually like to find the off shore working clothes, as these are probably more durable, etc. (read more $ into that)
again, thanks for the quick replies.
CC
