Based on some I-Boats member responses to an earlier query about good boating spots my wife and I and the mighty Larson are off to Lake Charlevoix next week. We have booked a B & B for three nights and hope to get in some good boating and sightseeing. Have been doing searches for restaurants, neat shops and attractions in the area. The week after that is a big annual event however accomodations are scarce so next week it is. Hopefully we will have good weather and calm water!!!

Trip home will include loading up on groceries, beer and gas (truck and boat) just before the border. The savings there (compared to Cdn prices) will go a long way to offsetting the cost of the trip!!!

Stopped at the lake several times. A beautiful area. Try the local whitefish. I would also recommend taking the short trip to Bay Harbor for a brew at Knot Just A Bar. Free dockage. Then another short trip to Harbor Springs. Another brew and some escargot at The Pier. Courtesy dock available. The water in that area is beautiful. Spent many summers there living aboard.

Charlevoix is amazing. My nephew and his wife live on Walloon Lake, it's about 15 minutes away. Plenty of things to do. I'm not much of a gambler, but I know there's even a casino within 1/2 hour drive. Hope you have a great time!

Just got back from there a week ago today. My signature picture is from there. Look how blue that water looks.

We ate at several retraurants, but nothing comes to mind as fantastic. But right where the southern arm comes off the main lake right where the ferry is there is a place called the Landing. Had real good sandwiches for a reasonable price and has plenty of docking. My wife and I really like driving to both Boyne City and Charlervoix, docking and walking around sightseeing and a little shopping. The lake can get very choppy though.

I have to second the recommendation to eat at The Pier in Harbor Springs.

That was my favorite place to eat growing up in Petoskey.:)

I hear the Lake Trout are hitting in Little Traverse bay if you want to do any fishing. What's now Bay Harbor used to be a cement plant and has a nice shelf that holds fish all day in 40-80ft of water.

the locals now call it "Petos Key. A small boat in LTB is a great way of catching some trophy fish. Suppose you've been to Mitchell Street Pub?
