THe wife has finally said that if I want to be a boat owner I need a new boat, so the 1976 Bowrider is out. It does have a fair amount of rot and has seen better days.

I have posed this question before but this winter is the year to undertake this project if possible. I am very familiar with this engine and would like to keep it, but is it worth it?

With all the boats with 470's will this motor swap into some? Has anyone pulled a I6 and know of a good boat manufact. to swap?

Option 2:

Part out the engine on fleabay, scrap the boat, and go shopping.

is this the boat you want to keep for a long time or would you like to try something bigger.
what can you afford?
most of the time your pocket book tells you what direction to go, not your heart.

Sounds like the proper thing to do. WHY?????
This:

Somehow I get the impression that is what your wife would like to see happen. Seems she may not like the boat as much as you.

Besides. You say ........
I am very familiar with this engine and would like to keep it, but is it worth it?

I am also very familiar with them. But it doesn't make me want one. Even Merc decided it was time to give up on them, 20 years ago.

Why don't you take your wife boat shopping???????????

Don,

THanks for bringing me to my senses, wife thinks the old boat is a POS, which it is, but it is fun and runs. No sense transplanting a 30+ year engine. Failure is bound to happen soon.

Her idea, which doesnt look bad, sell/part out old boat and then try to trade good condition 1994 corvette for boat. So the vette goes and newer updated boat.
