Hey the camera was on him. On Letterman no less. I would expect McCain to say whatever the crowd wanted to hear. Such a shame. He was once a great man and politician.

"I would expect McCain to say whatever the crowd wanted to hear."

Really? A student at Annapolis, a captain in the Navy, a POW for 5 1/2 years and was never broken. Then, an American audience broke him down in minutes? I find that very difficult to buy.

I sure like McCain better than anyone else that has declared.

In a sense every life that this country has lost is any war was a waste since they were lost in an attempt to right some irrational dictators fantasies of world control. For example ,if the Japanese and Germans hadn't been such underhanded greedy little vermins, think of the lives that would not have been essentially wasted.Hell, the guy was a pow in a war that was a monumental waste of lives. You know ,that little conflict that Clinton dodged and instead smoked pot that he didn't inhale while watching his former classmates become statistics on the evening news.McCain owes noone a damn thing.Least wise ,some explanation or apology demanding GOP headhunter.

Talk about cynical use of fallen soldiers.
When McCain says that these soldier's lives were wasted,I can only agree with him.Every young person dieing in a war is the loss of a living person who could have had a great future and all that is laid to waste.
What upsets me is that, when this is mentioned in public, some political vultures have to start making political hay out of it.First with Obama and now with McCain.
Politicians should have a bit more respect for those who paid the ultimate price for what they believed in.

Sen. McCain occasionally says things that he regrets after reflection. I really hope he regrets such an intemperate comment.

Lives sacrificed in a worthy and noble cause are never wasted, even when that cause is abandoned.

Cute CJY. The only slip he is showing is one colored Blue. It is a very poor attemp, on your part, to demean conservatives. Only it won't work. You picked the wrong guy. What ever banner he presents himself under, he is weak kneed Liberal in disguise.

I've noticed the more liberal a Republican is the more a Democrat will dislike them.

a POW for 5 1/2 years and was never broken.

I didn't know if this was a "bashing" thread or not.
I reasoned that if McCain said "American lives were wasted in the 4 year conflict" it would be "fair and balanced' to discuss his claim.

However, CJY's slip is showing.
His use of poetic licence to make claim that McCain wasn't "broken" might suggest contempt. ;)

Sorry Skinny, I cannot respond to this as I do not understand your point.

When I referred to McCain as never being "broken," by the Vietnamese, my only suggestion is that he is much tougher than Pointer gives him credit for being.

What? He is an elected republican. Whether or not you call him a conservative is irrelevant. BTW, are you telling me that every time a lib says something stupid he/she can be thrown to your side of the fence, therefore representing the conservatives/reps? That is what you just did..

BTW skinny, not necessarily a bashing thread against McCain. I don't like what he said, but like Clinton and Obama, I accept his and their replies as I really do not know the intent of their statements. This BTW, is unlike so many of you regarding Hillary and Obama and their statements.

Plainsman and WITF, did you read the article? It also speaks to Obama's statement.

I don't know that I would go as far a Boom, (I don't think I'm as Cornservative as Boom either). McCain has been a problem for me since Campaign Finance, n' refusing to lower taxes with President Bush. I think he is an HONORABLE moderate and unpredictable Senator, (and a Great American Hero). I admire John Glenn in a similar way too. Sometimes I like what he does, but he seems to lack core principals. He claims to be fiscally responsible, but refuses to cut taxes which gives the rest of 'em no choice, but shrink the government. I would support him against any Democrat, (I may have to ponder that if it were Richardson, [unlikely]). Hope he does not win the nomination. The statement was careless, and chosing Letterman's show to announce also seems to show poor judgement. He has done this kinda thing for years. My $.02 ps: the fact that LIbs love to lecture the Republican party about what they should do is a hoot for me. 8)8)
