Well I have been working feverishly over the past few months doing a complete restoration on my 19' cabin cruiser...New floor, transom, stringers, mounts, complete motor rebuild, new head, wired and plumbed and fabbed up a galley, built new Alaskan bulkhead, made a dinette, installed heater(s), new bellows and bearings in the gimbal, new shift cable and the list goes on and on. In the meanwhile, I have been sneaking off the the briny to get some hours in breaking in the new motor and finally got 10 hours yesterday on it so I can now change the oil and winterize. This is my first inboard ('78 -898 305- 5.0L) so there was a steep learning curve.
Well just in time as there is a blizzard warning tonite so I set about removing the drain plugs and hoses.
All went well with the manifolds and risers as I had them apart and all the plugs removed already this year, but when I got to the 2 plugs on either side of the block, they were seized!
Stupid me never pulled them before rebuilding so they are in there tight... I used a 1/4" allen key socket and got the torches out to get some heat and PB Blaster on them but still ended up just stripping the hex hole.
There is water on the other side so the torches are basically useless.
There isn't enough clearance to get a drill in straight without pulling the motor.
Not enough meat showing to get visegrips on there.
What are my options?
With a blizzard already started, there is no time to think about pulling the motor until spring but I don't want to if I can avoid it...at least until I decide I should replace my noisy shutter(s) as well.
Will dumping antifreeze down the tstat housing save my motor or is there another way?
