ohm meter reading when doing max advance at tdc

ok so at btdc .222 with ohm meter connected advancing magneto untill points are open how do I know what will ohm meter read or do? ?? I am getting a constant beep then it jumps to a higher number n back down is this when there open book just says wen they start to open as indicated by meter I'm confused ...pleas help I get the rest just not sure on this ..thanks in advance ...

When points are open reading will jump to infinity- it will look on your meter how it looks when the leads arent touching

With the engine at .222BTDC and the Ohm meter connected just as the mag touches the max spark stop the meter should pulse or the buzzer will change pitch, you will always have some continuity with the meter as you are reading to ground thru the coil but when the points close it will read full scale and when the points are open it will read about half scale, we use a mecrotronic which has a coil continuity test on it to time the old engines but any good OHM mter will do the same thing.

Great thank you so much .. I have a good fluke meter as I am a maintnance man i figured id just get no continuity untill point open , it through me off I didnt think about reading through coil that makes sense ...Again Thanks u been a great help very much appreciated ..You must be a marine mech.. lol

Thats why it would jump i got it know ..its actually reads half scale then back up to full scale "jumping" thanks ...
