Have '86 140hp 3.0 motor. Motor is tight ( 150# compression and 40# oil pressure ). Manual calls for straight 30 or 40 weight oil. Getting hard to find straight grade oil in my brand (Quaker State). Can I used 10w30? Thanks Kurt

I would use something heavier, like 15W40 diesel oil or 20W50

I would worry about introducing a diesel oil to an older engine that hasn't been running high detergent oils in the past. I blew up a company Chevy 350 in a pickup doing that as the detergents washed all the carbon out. IMHO, safer to run automotive oils unless you run the diesel stuff from the beginning.

(edit: I gots my jen-you-ayn army surplus kevlar hemut on my head. Let er rip :^)
