Re: oil advice!

It depends on the engine manufacturer as to what oil is recommended. I believe Mercury requires only oil with the FC-W (4-stroke) label in either a conventional or semi-synthetic form. Susuki for example recommends standard SAE 10-40 oil with any of the later automotive specification. Their own brand of 4-stroke oil is also FC-W rated. So for warranty purposes, you need to follow the manufacturers recommendation but you do not need to use the manufacturers oil. Pennzoil, WalMart and nearly every other producer on the planet markets an FC-W 4-stroke oil. You pay your money and make your choice.

Any for stroke oil that is FC-W rated will be fine as Silvertip explained. With a new motor use it to CYA!!
