I have a 200XL EFI Mariner that the oil alarm sounds at idle all the time. When the rpms are increased a bit it goes away, the engine runs good.Mechanic said it could be the plastic gear on the camshaft that runs the oil pump could be warn? They have also cleaned the fuel distribuation box out. any ideas?

Re: oil alarm@ idle

I wouldn't think the gear would not work at idle, and not at a higher speed. It could be a misfire on the ignition being sampled by the oil alert module. (move the wire to another cylinder and see if the problem goes away.) It could be low signal voltage from the sensor in the oil pump (book has tests for that) or it could be a bad oil alert module.

hope it helps
