For my Starcraft, I use polyurathane porch and floor enamel for the wood floor. Low cost, holds up well, easy clean-up, and easy touch-up. I use a traction additive to prevent slipping.

In the store recently, and found out all oil based paints are getting elliminated. Luckly they had two gallons of the color I was looking for, and it was clearanced at 50% off. Plenty, with what I have on hand to complete my new casting deck, and for touch-up for a number of years.

I am assuming there is some type of water based replacement, but doubt it will be as good as oil. Are marine or other specialty paints effected by this change? like the truck bed linings, etc? Carpet is out of the question.

John, This is news to me. I guess I could understand eliminating the obsolete oil based paint like interior and exterior house paint. However, I still think there is a place for oil based wood and deck stain, oil based stain killing primer and other oil based paints. I also do not think the marine paint industry is nearly ready to eliminate oil based paint. Most of the antifouling paint is oil based, as is all the enamel.

Somebody at work had mentioned it to me and confirmed with person at True Value hardware as to why the floor & porch paint was clearanced at 50% off. The guy at work believed it affects all household oil based paints. Like you, I will not be happy if this means no oil based deck stains and exterior trim paint.

Depending on what state you are in, you can still buy oil based paints in the smaller sizes like pints or quarts.
