Oil Capacity

1985 Sea Ray SRV 300, Twin Mercruiser 5.7L with Alpha 1 drives.

Previous owner relocated the oil filter. It is now mounted on port side of engine above power steering pump, up side down configuration.

2 questions -

1 - When changing the oil, how much oil do you put back in the engine? Do you keep the capacity the same as if the oil filter was not relocated or do you compensate for the additional oil lines?

2 - I've read somewhere, when you drain the oil you should puncture a hole on the top of the oil filter to drain the filter contents to the oil pan. By doing this, would'nt it allow all of the impurities trapped in the filter to reenter the oil system?

No,the impurities are trapped in filter.

Add oil until the stick says it's full.Test run 3 minutes,shut off and recheck level.

Top up oil.
