I have an 85HP - 3 Cylinder built in to the bayliner boat just bought a week ago and have not tested this season or not started the engine first. Is it recommended or needed to have the oil change before starting and what type of oil? Your help please. Thanks

most likely this is a 2-stroke motor. if that is the case, you would be changing the lower unit oil.

verify what you have. a year and serial number help.

Yes it is a 2 cycle - 3 cylinder from US Marine Power. HP is 85 @ 5000 RPM. Is there a video or link I can look at it how to change? Thanks

There is no oil in 2 cycle's... Oil goes in the gas, you either have to pre-mix it (most likely), or it has oil injection/mixer. You REALLY want to know where the oil goes, if you don't pre-mix and your injector isn't working, you buy a new engine.

(lots of older boats had injector oil systems that were of questionable quality, and were often bypassed. Need to figure out what the previous owner did.)

85 hp. 3 cylinder, US Marine, Bayliner, sounds to me to be about a mid to late 80's vintage. No oil injection on that motor, just lower unit oil.

if it is an L-drive, you probably bought the boat dirt cheap....because many of the parts are NLA.

I change the oil with every single gas tank I hook up to my motor. Outboads only require a lower unit oil change, the oil you use is mixed with the gas, whether through oil injection or oil mix in the gas tank.

Post up the information about the motor and we can help you out.
