Getting close to winterizing boat, Merc 350 mag/Bravo 3
I have engine oil drain hose that I've never used.
I've always pumped through dip stick
Does anyone use the hose method of draining, and if so how do you pull hose through drain plug, not sure how it's supposed to be set up, I assume I can fish it out but thought I'd ask
Thanks

the engine drain hose is the best thing ever. pull it thru the plug hole, put in a catch basin and pull the cap. its slow, however only a beers worth slow.

your garboard plug should have a snap swivel on the end of it that connects to the end of the hose.

I have also flagged the post to get it moved to the Mercruiser I/O forum vs the Mercury OB forum

I used the drain hose. My motor has a fair amount of space underneath and I'm able to grab the hose and push it into the drain hole and then pull it out from the outside. Takes about 20-30 minutes to fully drain but I just find something else to work on during that time.

I too use the drain hose. Of course it helps to run the engine prior to changing the oil to get it warmed up. It flows out much easier.

I'm kicking myself for not installing one of those drain hoses when I had my engine pulled. If I had 6' long, double jointed arms, I'd try to add one with the engine installed, but I don't see how to do it otherwise.

Depends on how much room you have to get it started in the drain hole. If you can get your hand in there you should be able to just push the end through, if not There should be a hole in the plug, so I you can put a piece of wire or strong cord through the hole, feed it out the drain and pull it through.

Ayuh,..... I Did,... Made the thing of course, insteada buyin' a Kit,.....

Up until I bought a 7qt.miteyvac oil sucker, I used it,....
Pull the line, pop the cap, run the hose into a catchcan, 'n go do somthin' else for an hour or so,.....
Hot or cold oil, it takes ForEver to drain,...

I used to think drainin' from the bottom was better for gettin' the crud that mighta settled outa the oil,....
Don S always said B/S,... Don't matter,....
I now convinced that once again,.... He was Right,..... ;)
