OIl coming out of a hole it shouldn't in my Alpha One

Hi Everybody!

The other day I noticed an oil spot under the outdrive of my Sea Ray. A closer inspection showed the oil was coming from the water intake ports of the lower unit (more from the right/starboard side). Any ideas about the cause/fix? I'm hoping it's just a bad seal. I did a search and found one possible hit about the water pump housing seal, but nothing else came up.

I realize I've been a little vague, but I haven't had the time to dive into the problem yet. A little background: '95 Sea Ray BR195 w/ 4.3L/V6, Alpha One outdrive, approximately 400-450 hours, impeller has never been replaced, oil changed at least once a year in both engine and outdrive. The gear oil was replaced in the outdrive last fall with no visible water, and the boat has not been in the water yet this year (much to my dismay... :( ). I have a manual on order, but it hasn't arrived yet. Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys!

Dave

If your shure its not oil spilled from the last oil change then your right. Replace the waterpump and seals under it. Buy the full kit and they come with it.

Also while your at it I would replace the shift shaft seal.

Thanks Trent!

I'm sure the oil isn't from the last oil change. It's coming right out of the water intake ports. Looks like I'll be learning how to break down an outdrive...

Thanks again!

Dave
