Hi everyone, I have an 84 60horse johnson. I winterized it like normal this year, drained the lower unit oil etc. I'm noticing oil coming out of the water drain hole on the lower unit. It doesn't appear to be lower unit oil as it's black and not clean like I just put in. Any idea how this could be happening? I thought this hole only drained water. Apparently it was happening when it was in the water to because i noticed some fuel/oil on top of the water. I figured that was just from some oil/fuel dripping out of the shroud into the back of the boat and then going in the water but now I don't think so. Any assistance as always is appreciated.

Nothin' to worry about Grady.....that's just unburned oil from the exhaust. It happens and if ya' fogged it good, you'll see a lot of that black gunk running out.

That goo gave me a bit of a start the first time I saw it too.

Thanks everyone....that puts my mind at ease. The motor may not be the best but if the lower unit goes that would be the end of it!!! Gotta love this website!!!

Mark42,
That picture looks just like my little boat....only yours in much better condition...we picked ours up for 200 bucks but we only use it for crabbing and stuff....love the little boat!!!
