I have a 78 Crestliner 16ft. with a 70 h.p. Johnson on it. I winterized last Nov. by stabilizing the fuel, fogging the carbs and draining the lower unit and refilling with new green lube from the bottom to the top. I pulled it out of the shed monday night and fired it up and it ran like a champ after some initial smoking. I put it away and went back down tonight (wed) to shrink wrap the electrical connections on the trailer and I noticed black oil coming in a VERY slow drip between the prop and the part that it flush fits to against the lower unit. I'm a newbie so please forgive my lack of proper vernacular. what could this oil be coming from? do I have a leaky seal or gasket? is this expensive to fix? Ahhhhh! this is frustrating because it runs so well! Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

First you'll get better results if you put this in the Evinrude Johnson section.
More than likely what you have is simply exhaust residue. Will probably smell gassy instead of the typical gearcase lube smell.

My old Johnny does that too. Most likely as Steel says, unburned oil and fuel mixing with exhaust trunk carbon residue. Fogging may have loosened up some gunk. Keep an eye on the lower unit oil level. Worth being cautious. They don't make these things anymore!! but you can get parts.
