I had a local mechanic put a new vro pump in my '88 90 hp evinrude vro last year. Since then it seems like it is sucking oil at an alarming rate. Smoke all over the place. I've used 2 gallons of oil since May and I know i've only burned about 60 gallons of gas. Is this adjustable? Where is the adjustment? Or should I just disable the vro and premix 50:1? WHat is the procedure for disabling the vro?

As it being a 1988 Motor, I would do away with the oil injection, as this is about the time they tend to go south! Or, you can always spring for a new pump($250.00) and rest assured that it's good! As far as diableing it: Disconnect the oil line from the oil tank at the Motor and cap the fitting at the motor, Disconnect wiring harness from VRO pump on the motor(Usually a round or 1" X 2" plug-in), disconnect 2 wires That connect to engine from remote tank. Remove the Tank. Ground the 2 tan wires at top of each cylinder bank for a second while the key is in the "ON" position to check overheat alarm. That's it! Takes about 20 Minutes. Mix your own 50:1 in the gas tank and go!
